Americans plan to spend about $81 each this year celebrating Halloween, according to a survey conducted by American Express. The figure matches or exceeds last year’s $2.5 billion total, of which $950 million was spent on candy. “The growing popularity of Halloween among adults has created a new opportunity for retailers who are capitalizing on a holiday once celebrated primarily by children,” said AmEx vice president of Retail Industries Marketing Emelie Smith.
