Swedish Integration Minister Ulrica Messing wants to do away with the term “immigrant” in the country’s laws and speech. “The label immigrant’ is connected with a lot of different negative aspects, like unemployment and social exclusion,” explains a spokeswoman. “We tend to create a we’ versus them’ situation and want to break this up.” And what would the new label be? Messing suggests “person of foreign background” would be more appropriate. (Reuters) ...“Idiot” is too negative. “Person of political background” would be more appropriate.
