Some high schools around Chicago, Ill., area are running background checks on prom dates. Students who bring dates that don’t go to the same school must submit their dates’ names, and the school checks their criminal records. “We have to provide a safe environment for the kids,” said a teacher on a prom committee. But the mother of one girl whose date was rejected denounced the practice. “We’re talking about going to a dance for a few hours,” she said. “It’s not like he wants a job.” (AP) ...You can take my daughter to a hotel, but you better not try to get a job making her hamburgers.
