Uncommon LawA British man is suing his doctor for telling him he had just three months to live — in 1993. Cyril Smith indeed had cancer, but chemotherapy saved his life. He’s seeking compensation for his “anguish” and for loss of earnings, since he quit his job when he got the news. Meanwhile, another British man is suing Southampton General Hospital for keeping his six-months-pregnant girlfriend alive long enough for his son to be born after a brain clot put her in a coma. “I didn’t want Sarah kept alive in that awful, degrading way,” Steven Davies said. But the hospital ignored his wishes because he wasn’t related to Sarah, and instead followed the direction of her parents, who wanted to give the baby a chance to live. Sarah died shortly after the birth, but the baby lived, and Davies has custody. (Reuters) ...Did anyone consider what Sarah would have wanted?
