The Republic of the Fiji Islands has adopted a new constitution. To help defuse tension among the native Melanesian people and the 46-percent Indian population, the constitution has named citizens “Fiji Islanders” rather than “Fijians”, a title the Melanesian people didn’t want non-natives to have. The Associated Press reported on the new constitution under the headline, “Fijians Settle on Fiji Islanders’”. (AP) ...These things take time.
