Where the Boys Are

The Lowell (Mass.) School Committee was trying to figure out what to do about the troublemakers in local schools. “There are one, two or three students in each class who are full of mischief, who are disruptive,” says committee member William Taupier. “It’s a small number, around 2 percent, but the wrath they bring on the whole system is unfair to the other 98 percent.” Then he got an idea: put them all in the same school together. “It’s not going to be a case where you’ll be exiled from school forever,” Taupier said. “By a merit system they will return to the regular school system.” (AP) ...Meanwhile, they’ll have one hell of a football team.
