Why I Love the British — Part 1,213 of a Long Series

Nicholas Griffin owns two sex shops in England: Little Amsterdam in York and The Adult Shop in Grimsby. Customers at the two stores paid as much as 50 pounds (US$72.50) for the movies Secrets of a Sensuous Nurse and The Confessions of a Sex Maniac only to find they were not hard-core pornographic films, as advertised. “These were not the more interesting videos these people were seeking,” argued prosecutor Michael Taylor, noting the movies were no more spicy than what could be found on television, and adding that both male and female customers had complained. Griffin was fined 3,800 pounds (US$5,512) and ordered to pay 2,000 pounds in court costs on three counts of misrepresenting the movies as dirtier than they actually were.
