With Friends Like These

It’s pretty typical for the president to be bashed by the opposing party. But Bill Clinton has to contend with sniping by his own partisans, too. “Clinton’s an unusually good liar. Unusually good. Do you realize that?” asked Democrat Sen. Bob Kerrey in a magazine interview. Democrat Sen. Ernest Hollings notes that Clinton’s approval polls are getting better — “If they get up to 60 percent, his people tell me Bill can start dating again,” Hollings told a newspaper. Hollings said he was joking, and Kerrey apologized to Clinton. But when asked if he really thinks Clinton is a liar, Kerrey simply said “I don’t really want to comment further.” (RC/AP) ...Indeed: who needs to?
