Yes, We Have No Bananas II

A Russian scientist has died in the worst atomic accident since the Chernobyl disaster. Alexander Zakharov emerged from a uranium-contaminated Arzamas-16 atomic weapons lab and told colleagues, “I told you, the gloves were too slippery.” Zakharov absorbed more than 600 roentgen of radiation. A government commission investigating the accident didn’t say how the slippery gloves contributed to the mishap, but confirmed “The gloves were like a banana skin that people slide on when they run too fast.” (Reuters) ...“But remember please, the Law by which we live / We are not built to comprehend a lie / We can neither love nor pity nor forgive. / If you make a slip in handling us you die.” —Rudyard Kipling in The Secret of the Machines.
