The U.S. Postal Service reports it handled 41 percent of the world’s mail in fiscal year 1998. Second-place Japan handled 6 percent of the world’s mail, it said. The USPS’s mail volume for the year was 198 billion pieces, or approximately 376,712 items per minute. (AP) ...Impressive, until you realize that 102 billion pieces were junk mail.
