Your Call has Been Disconnected

The trend of Californians killed by trains because they were walking on the tracks talking on their cell phones continues. An Amtrak train struck Daniel Segundo, 16, who ducked under a crossing gate while chatting on his mobile in San Leandro. A few weeks before, a 31-year-old man on his way to work took his usual short-cut — across two train tracks to get to a hole in a fence. He waited for a train to pass by on the first track but, apparently because he was distracted by a conversation on his cell phone, failed to notice an Amtrak train approaching on the second track at 70 mph. He was identified as Scott Slaughter, 31. (San Francisco Chronicle, Oakland Tribune) ...Hit by a train going 70 mph? Yeah, that’s an appropriate name for it.
