When TWA flight 800 blew up, some people cried, some became more determined to fight terrorism, and some bought lottery tickets. More than 6,000 people put their money down on 8-0-0 in the Connecticut lottery — and they won. “They pretty much broke the bank on us,” said a lottery spokesman. The lottery collected $344,277 on the tickets, but had to pay out all of it, plus $678,170 more. Ticket vendors say the rush for such tickets after a disaster is not usual. “It’s sad,” said one.
